DYSAUTONOMIA

Exercise Protocol for POTS

I found this article extremely interesting and useful to explain how exercise can be used to assist with reducing POTs (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) and believe it is worth a read. Exercise can play a big part in improving, but not curing, dysautonomia symptoms and looking at validated research is always useful to understand how the condition affects our body's systems and how exercise can assist through hormesis to improve our tolerance and ability to cope with a variety of conditions. This can assist us to live a healthier life and cope better with daily tasks and functionality.

Here is the link to the article, but find the analysed information below:

CHOP POTS PROTOCOL

Who was tested: the sample used initially to see the effects of exercise were individuals who suffered from POTs.

What were the variables: many research studies implemented an exercise protocol without the use of medication, and some have assessed the decreased reliance for people who are on medication.

What were the goals: the aims of many of the studies are to see if increasing physical conditioning would improve health, reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.

Outcomes: many studies found that a steady and slow increase in exercise allowed individuals to decrease their reliance on medication, and also have reduced symptoms or a higher level at which symptoms occur.

The protocol: the protocol link has been attached above, but the main principle includes starting exercises in a supine position and slowly progress to sitting and standing as tolerated.

My Protocol: I have developed a protocol based on my experience with Dysautonomia and POTs which is freely available for any who is keen to try it. Send me an email and I shall respond with the attached protocol.
